A pair of players who should hear their name called early in the 2023 NHL Draft headline Canada’s selection camp roster for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship.
Forwards Connor Bedard and Adam Fantilli are the only undrafted skaters on the 29-player camp roster. Bedard was ranked No. 1 and Fantilli No. 3 on Sam Cosentino’s most recent draft rankings.
The 2023 edition will run from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 and will be co-hosted by Halifax and Moncton, N.B. Canada will hold camp from Dec. 9-12 in Moncton, including a pair of games against U Sports all-stars, and name the final 23-man roster on Dec. 12.
Seattle Kraken forward Shane Wright and Arizona Coyotes forward Dylan Guenther were not on the list invited to camp but are both expected to be released to Hockey Canada by their NHL clubs.
Canada is the defending champions at this tournament after beating Finland 3-2 in overtime in August, after the tournament was initially postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic last December. There are 10 players from that gold-medal-winning team on the selection camp roster.
