Lightning’s Steven Stamkos reaches 1,000-point milestone

Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos hit the 1,000-point plateau on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Stamkos assisted on Nick Paul’s goal in the second period to give the Lightning a 2-0 lead.

The Lightning cleared the bench to congratulate Stamkos after the goal.

Stamkos is the fourth-fastest active player to hit the milestone (945 games, all with the Lightning), behind Sidney Crosby (757), Evgeni Malkin (848) and Alex Ovechkin (880).

The 32-year-old Stamkos, who was drafted first overall by the Lightning in 2008, became the 95th player in NHL history to reach the milestone.

The native of Markham, Ont., has 494 goals and 506 assists for his career.

Stamkos has 13 goals and 15 assists in 23 games this season.

A seven-time NHL all-star, Stamkos won Stanley Cups with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021.
